When I first went to college I never would have thought I would join a sorority, yet alone be a fraternity sweetheart. Being the Tau Kappa Epsilon Zeta-Lambda Sweetheart has been a life changing experience for me, and I am so honored and proud to represent such a great group of men.
When I first went to college I never would have thought I would join a sorority, yet alone be a fraternity sweetheart. After being on campus for two years and learning more about sororities, I knew that I wanted to join one. My junior year I went through recruitment and found my home in Kappa Delta.
Shortly after joining KD, I was introduced to our Daggerman, Pedro, who is a Tau Kappa Epsilon. As I got to know Pedro and went to socials, I was introduced to more and more Tekes, and eventually met my boyfriend, Corey. I started going to TKEphilanthropy and fundraiser events, intramural games, and date parties. I also met other girlfriends, and eventually become friends with a majority of the guys in the chapter.
As my senior year began, I was going to just as many TKE events as I was my own sorority’s events. I knew almost all of the guys and supported them any way I could. I even started baking cookies and brownies for their intramural games. As sweetheart elections quickly approached, many of the guys approached me about applying. I had been thinking about it already, but it was flattering that they actually wanted me to run, so I did!
All of TKE’s past sweethearts but one were my sisters, including my great-grand big and my grand big’s twin. I always throughout it would be cool to “keep it in the family.” But more importantly, I wanted to run because of the genuine friendships that I had made with the guys over the last year. During my speech, I assured the guys that if I became their sweetheart, our friendships would continue to grow and I would help the chapter out in any way that I could. The night of elections was a little nerve racking. But later that night, after waiting three long hours, I found out I was elected the 2014-2015 Tau Kappa Epsilon Zeta-Lambda Sweetheart.
Although I have only been a sweetheart for a few months, it has already been a life changing experience for me. I still go to all of their events to support them like I did before and I have helped design t-shirts for their events. But most importantly, the bonds that I have made with these men have grown even more. Every single one of these men is like a brother to me and we will always have each other’s backs. I am so honored and proud to represent such a great group of men.
