My Hair Care with Neon by Paul Mitchell

Hair Care

A few months ago my cousin, who works for Paul Mitchell, reached out to me about trying Paul Mitchell’s new Neon haircare line. I never really used nice, expensive hair products before because I didn’t want to spend the money, so I decided to give it a try and I’m glad I did! Not only is this product a great professional product that is good for your hair, but it is affordable! Today I am sharing my first impression, my haircare routine, hair FAQ, and my overall review of this product.

First Impression

The first morning I used the Neon Sugar Cleanse (shampoo) and Sugar Rinse (conditioner) I was very impressed! The shampoo was a little runnier compared to what I was used to, but I found that it lathered so well in my hair, which I really liked! It was clear that a little amount of product went a long way with this shampoo and I felt like my hair was really getting clean. Before when I washed my hair, I felt like I had to use a ton of product for it to feel clean. I also didn’t have to use as much conditioner as I normally used with other products, so it is definitely safe to say a little bit goes a long way.

After rinsing, my hair felt sleek, soft, and detangled. Since my hair is so long and thick, it gets tangled very easily, which can be very annoying. After I got out of the shower, I used a wide tooth comb and combed my hair from the ends up.  It was so easy to comb and I didn’t feel like I had to force the comb through my hair. And the best part was my hair smelled so good!

Before I dried my hair, I used the Sugar Cream (smoothing cream). I was impressed the most by this product because my hair was so straight and smooth after I dried it! I have very fine, but thick hair and it is usually pretty frizzy after I blow dry it. I usually have to go over my hair with my straightening iron to smooth it out and remove the kinks, but with this I didn’t have to! It definitely saved me a lot of time and I didn’t have to use as much heat on my hair.

Overall Review

I love this hair care line! I love the way my hair feels after using it, and I found that I don’t need to wash my hair as much as I used to because it stays clean. I also love how smooth and soft my hair is for days after using it. It is also color safe so I don’t have to worry about my blonde color fading. I would highly recommend this product if you are looking for a new hair care line!

Hair Care

My Haircare Routine

I try to only wash my hair every other day or every three days if I can. When I wash my hair I lather the Neon Sugar Cleanse shampoo into the roots of my hair. I don’t really wash the ends because I don’t want to dry out or damage my hair. After rinsing, I will use the Sugar Rinse conditioner. I leave this on my hair while I shave and wash my body, which usually ends up being about 5 minutes. I rinse my hair with warm water (not hot water), towel try, and comb.

Before I blow dry my hair, I let it air dry for a bit (if I tried to dry it right away it would probably take an hour to dry). When it’s slightly damp I will use either the Sugar Cream smoothing cream from the Neon collection or the Miracle Leave-in product from It’s A 10 haircare before blow-drying. I usually use the smoothing cream if I want my hair to be straight and use It’s A 10 if I am going to curl it. It varies each day and I try to switch it up so my hair doesn’t get used to the same product.

After blow-drying, I style my hair the way I want to that day. My go-to style is curling it, but some days ain’t nobody got time for that (lol). On days when I don’t wash my hair I use Batiste dry shampoo on my roots, then curl or straighten.

Hair FAQ

Q: What is your natural color? A: My root/base color is my natural color.

Q: Do you get balayage? A: Yes. However, I do not know the exact color formula.

Q: How often do you maintain your color? A: When I had highlights I went about every six months. The first time I did balayage I didn’t go back for 11 months. Balayage is definitely a lot easier to maintain.

Q: Where do you get your hair done? A: I have gone to Creative Hair Designs in Findlay, OH my entire life and Jenny has pretty much been the only person to cut or color my hair. I love her! If you end up making an appointment, tell them I sent you!

Q: Do you have extensions? A: Nope! This is my real hair.

Q: How do you curl your hair? A: I use a 1.25″ curling iron. When I curl my hair I do about 1.5″ sections and start from the root. I’ll curl the root part of my hair for about 5 seconds and then loosen the clamp to wrap the rest of my hair around the barrel. Usually I leave about an inch of my ends out of the barrel to give it a wavy look, rather than curling all the way to the ends. I also always run a wide tooth comb and/or my fingers through my hair after I curl it to loosen up the waves a bit. I also always curl my hair away from my face.

Q: How long does it take you to curl your hair? A: I’ve curled my hair for so long now I can usually do it in about 5-7 minutes. Practice makes perfect!

Q: How do you get your curls to hold all day? A: I naturally have wavy hair, so my hair doesn’t really have a problem holding curl (unless it’s really humid out). Before I style my hair, I let it almost completely air dry so my natural waves help.

Q: How do you get your hair to be so smooth? A: As mentioned above, I use the Sugar Cream smoothing cream from the Neon collection or the Miracle Leave-in product from It’s A 10 haircare before blow-drying.

If ya’ll have any other questions, please leave them in the comments below! I filmed myself curling my hair so I could actually show you all, but my computer hates iMovie and it just didn’t work out.  I hope you enjoyed today’s blog post and consider giving Neon by Paul Mitchell a try! If you do, leave a comment below and tell me what you think of it!

Xoxo, Kasually Katie
