2017 Favorites

2018 is officially here! I still cannot believe 2017 is already over and we are already half way through January. Why does time pass so fast? If you have been a follower for a while, you know that I used to post monthly favorites posts. Something I would like to do this year is to start doing those posts again, so I thought it would be fun to start the year off by rounding up my favorite things from 2017. From fashion to books, I have listed my favorite things from the last year and why I love these items. Without further ado, here are my 2017 favorites.

A New Day Loafer Mules – At first, I wasn’t really sure if I liked loafer mules because I thought they were kind of a mom shoe (probably because I remember my mom wearing them when I was little). But the more I saw them, the more they grew on me. I saw so many influencers posting about the Gucci and Steve Madden mules, but wasn’t willing to fork out the money for them. THEN, I found these for a great deal at Target. I actually bought the ones without fur too so I could wear them to work. I love to wear them all the time with sweaters and jeans or leggings. The faux fur adds a dressy touch, but they can also be super casual.

Lilly Pulitzer Lana Romper – Back in September, I featured this beautiful romper in my 25 Things I Have Learned in 25 Years post. I was so grateful to receive it as a birthday gift and it is hands down my favorite Lilly Pulitzer piece in my collection. I love the color blue so this popped out to me the first time I saw it and I loved it even more when I found out it was a print with purpose. I can’t wait to wear it next summer and on future vacations!

Toby Gray and White Striped Shift Dress – In 2017, I did my first brand collaboration with Toby and styled this simple striped dress. I honestly wear this dress all the time because it is so comfortable and I can wear it so many different ways. I love adding a pearl statement necklace to dress it up or a jean jacket and converse for a more casual look.

Urban Decay All Nighter Foundation – I discovered this foundation last summer when I was looking for a waterproof or long-lasting foundation that would last all day in the heat while I was at Faster Horses. I included it in my July Favorites blog post and I loved it so much I started wearing it every day beyond the summer. This foundation is definitely worth the money to me because a little bit goes a long way and one bottle lasted me almost 6 months!

Urban Decay Complexion Primer – I also included the Urban Decay Complexion Primer in my July favorites post because it pairs perfectly with the All Nighter foundation. Even if I do happen to use a different foundation, I still use this primer.

Arbonne’s RE9 Skincare – Back in October, I decided to try Arbonne’s 30 Days to Healthy Living and Beyond program. This program has honestly changed my life and the way I look at food. And to make it even better, Arbonne also has skincare, body, and makeup products. I tested out the RE9 skincare line in November and I can’t get over how smooth my face is! I was dedicated to Clinique since I was 14-years-old, but after using this product, I knew it was time to change up my routine. Comment below if you are interested in a more in-depth skincare routine post.

It’s A 10 Miracle Leave-In Cream – I don’t use many hair products, but this one is a must! I spray it on my hair before blow drying and my hair comes out so smooth and soft. It helps reduce frizz so I don’t have to straighten my hair as much. It also helps my curls look bouncy and beautiful, rather than stiff and crunchy. If there is one product you need to add to your collection, this one is it!

Batiste Dry Shampoo – This year I went from washing my hair 4-5 times a week to 1-2 times, mostly because of dry shampoo. Batiste is definitely my favorite brand of dry shampoo and it is so affordable.   It has saved me so much time in the mornings because I do not need to wash my hair every day like I used to, and it has saved my hair from the damage washing it all the time cases. I would also love to do a more in-depth post on this topic if it is something y’all are interested in!

Tartelette in Bloom Palette – I will always and forever love neutral eyeshadows and this palette was one of my most used makeup products this year. Every morning it was my go-to palette to create natural looks for work. I also used the darker colors in the palette to create night looks on the weekends. It is also a great palette to travel with because you can create so many looks with just one product, plus its small and the case is protective. I like that there are more matte colors, but there are also a few shimmery colors included. I’ve hit the pan for several of the colors and will be repurchasing soon!

Jergen’s Self-Tan Mousse – I am a dedicated self-tanner because fake-baking just isn’t worth the chance of getting skin cancer. Before I found this product, used St. Tropez self-tanning mousse, but it was starting to get pricey, especially when I started self-tanning once a week throughout the summer. My friend Jamie from The Blonder Life wrote about the Jergen’s Self-Tan Mousse in one of her blog posts so I decided to give it a try. I liked this product as much as the St. Tropez mousse and I liked the price tag even more. It is very buildable and you can see the color instantly. I highly recommend this product if you are looking for a self-tanner!

As I was writing this blog post I was thinking about my favorite music from last year. I honestly couldn’t narrow it down because I love music and there were just so many songs I loved this year. I went ahead and made a Spotify playlist of my favorite songs from 2017 so go check it out!

Tomato Spinach Chicken Spaghetti – I found this recipe on Pinterest while I was doing the 30 Days to Healthy Living program and modified it to fit the program’s requirements. Before I did the program, I didn’t realize how many canned items were loaded with unnecessary sugar and salt, especially marinara sauce. This recipe allows me to continue eating spaghetti but is a healthier alternative. It has become one of my favorite meals to make and my boyfriend even loves it!

Starbucks Peach Green Tea Lemonade – I discovered this drink last summer thanks to a co-worker and it has become my favorite Starbucks drink. I have always loved peach flavored anything, so this refreshing drink is my go-to order in the summer months.

Arbonne Pomegranate Fizz Sticks – These little packets create the perfect refreshing bubbly drink and have replaced coffee in my life. Y’all know I was an avid coffee drinker before I did the 30 Days to Healthy Living program, but I couldn’t drink coffee plain. I had to add creamer and sugar to even drink it and I realized that was so bad for my health and wellness goals. When I started the program, I started drinking these instead of coffee. They give me so much energy and are also way better tasting. My wallet is also thanking me because I saved about $140 a month by not going to Starbucks every day during my lunch break. If you are an avid coffee or soda drinker, you should give these a try!

This is Us – Ok, who didn’t love this show in 2017?! I was a little late starting this show, but once I started watching it I couldn’t stop. I swear I cried watching every single episode in the first season (not all sad tears). I have always enjoyed dramatic TV shows and loveeeeee Mandy Moore and Milo Ventimiglia, so I knew this would be a show I would probably like. I don’t feel like the second season is a tear jerker like the first, but something big is about to be revealed and I have a feeling there will be a lot of tears (I don’t want to spoil it for the people that haven’t watched yet). If you haven’t watched This is Us yet, I definitely suggest it!

Big Little Lies – This year I got Audible to start “reading” more books. Since it takes me so long to read books (I am a slow reader), I thought this would be a better alternative and I could listen to books while I am driving or at the gym. My favorite book that I listened to this year was Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty. This mysterious and suspenseful book was on the New York Times Best Seller List so I wanted to give it a shot. It was a little slow at first, but once you get into it, you won’t want to stop listening. The storyline is so good and the balance between humor and more serious topics makes it interesting. I have also been wanting to watch HBO’s TV series adaptation of the book.

Thanks for stopping by and reading my 2017 favorites! I hope you come by to read my future blog posts! I have so many great posts planned for this year and really want to fulfill my goal to blog at least once a week this year. I couldn’t get into the book version of “Big Little Lies,” but I LOVED the HBO version!

I have only watched a few of the episodes, but I really want to finish it! The book starts out slow but then gets really good. It’s way easier to listed with Audible.
